May 10

Another sunny day...but a bit on the cool side (low to mid 40's) And as you can see from the pictures, the wind finally played down and we were treated to a gorgeous evening. Perfect for a camp fire and fishing with my son off the swim dock. I caught the first pike...34 inches and Jeremiah caught the second one..27 inches! Since his is a perfect under sized pike, he will be supplying us with shore lunch tomorrow. He caught his fish just as the sun went down and the temperature dropped into the low 30's. So the warmest place to fillet his fish was right in front of the fire, that was a first for me. Jeremiahs pike was definitely on a feeding frenzy...it had in its belly what appear to be 13 smelt...plus the 2 minnows he stole from me...and he still bit Jeremiahs minnow. Wow!

May 9th ice update.

Looks like most of the smaller lakes are completely open now. As for the main lake, Howey Bay was pretty well solid yesterday. Today, however, we had more blue skies and a tremendous amount of wind. From the looks of it from camp, the is open water on our end of Red Lake. The north wind has blown a huge ice float into our narrows. I thought it was going to make it all the way to us but it seems to be stuck in the bottle neck.

Parker Lake completely clear of ice.

Look close...the suckers are running in Parker Creek

I caught three big perch on the dock today, two were
over  10 inches. This fat female measured 10.5 inches (released).

The big Pike are in the area as well. I have hooked 4 very heavy ones
but all managed to bite me off or find the dock posts.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but on the far side of the ice
there appears to be open water.
White caps in the bay all day long!

Life as it should always be...

When you have 82 deg in the shade, along with high SW winds, there is no chance for any ice to remain in our bay. It also means camp is starting to feel like camp again. Jeremiah caught his first fish today, which we fried up, Yum!
We also had a picnic...with a beautiful open lake view. And of course with all of that sun and outdoor excitement, we wind down with a family movie. Life as it should always be!!
