August is off with a bang

The past two weeks have been great for both fishing and guests. As it has been most of the summer, walleye fishing is great, pike fishing good, and other species are hit or miss...guests...fantastic.
A big thanks to all of the groups that came throw these past few weeks. I am sorry I did not get all of the picture up on this blog. I am running two sites this year (this blog and our Facebook page). Because of our data allowance restriction on our internet, I am not always putting pics up on both sites.
But here are a couple of pics from last week...

Back to business

Well after a nice break from a schedule, we are back to business around here. 7 groups totaling 30 guests has given a much better picture of the fish activity on Red Lake. The answer...very good!
Lots  and lots of eater sized walleyes (14-18inches) with quite a few overs (19-25 inches). Already this week we have had a few over 26 and even a 28 inch. Pike fishing is still a little slow, but there have been a few big ones (near 40 and 40+). Just a couple of lake trout (biggest is 37 inches).
Today the wether is unseasonably cool with all day (on/off) rain. Many guests decided to sleep in, have walleye chowder soup for lunch and just fish for a couple of hours.Hopefully fishing activity with ramp up tonight..I like seeing those big fish!

Family Week

We just started our only week off of the year. Today we went and visited our good friends Keith and Debbie at their camp down in Ear Falls. This is something we can only do when there are no guests in camp. The kids spent the day swimming and kayaking while the adults enjoyed the beautiful weather and had adult conversations. We have many great friends in and around the Red Lake area, but as camp owners, it is extremely hard for us to leave camp and visit very often. So, safe to say, we really enjoyed our day...great weather, great food, and great friends!

As for the fishing report...we had a very small week last week and,of course, no guests this week...but from what we have experienced...fishing is still good! Jillian and I have ramped up our fishing time and we have had no problem catching walleyes. Mostly eaters 13-18 inches, biggest is 25 inches. We even managed to catch some lake trout as well (nothing too big though). I did have 2 REALLY big trout on for 5-10 minutes before losing one to a bite off and the other just let go. Oh well, still a fun 10 minutes.

Hottest day of the year

Hottest day and night of the season!
Low 90's today with overnight temps in the 70's is the making for a tough day at camp. The only thing that saved us (a little) is the fact that wind blew at 15-25 mph all day. But with no central air, it is tough to cool off up here. So (after swimming) we made it an inside day (in front of the fans)we played games and watched movies with the kids. Nothing wrong with quality time with the Fam. "When life give you lemons...make lemonade".
I will admit...it was hard to sit still for such a long stretch...I just don't do that here at camp.
FYI - the thermometer is in a shaded area on our porch...at 6 pm...wow!!

Mid season update

Quick update… This is where our big fish wall stands at the moment…
Walleye - 216 over 25 inches, 10 this week, biggest is 30 inches.
Pike - 26 over 40 inches, biggest is 44 inches (x 2).
Trout - 88 total, biggest is 40 inches.
Perch - 26 over 10 inches, biggest is 11 inches.

Few guests but lots of fish.

So we only have 10 guests this week but, they are catching fish like there are 50 in camp. Cooler weather, along with a series of passing showers, has made the first day and half pretty great for our fishermen. Fish is definitely on the menu this week! I hope to get some pics soon.

Drone footage

We have had 4 guests this year bring up drones. Here is an example of the pictures they can take...this is what our summer home looks like from above.

Fishing continues to be good

Still trying to get some fish pics from this crew. What happens mid week when the fishing is good?...Shore lunches of course. Actually, there has been at least one shore lunch every day so far. Why not, right? When the average walleyes being caught are 16-18 inches, it does not take too many to feed a bunch of guys on there "lunch break". Sure beats PB&J.

Smaller group, cooler weather and a little slower start to the fishing. The much needed rain that came through Friday night also brought us much cooler temps and wind blowing in from the NE. We have not seen East winds in more than a week, and this tends to slow down the bite...the recent mayfly hatch does not help either.
We are still seeing some nice fish, however.
In fact, we now have a co-leader in the biggest pike category. Jeff caught a 44 incher this afternoon...he also caught a 38 inch pike on the swim dock.
