When we have long Winters and cold Springs, the most frequently asked question this time of year is...when will the ice go out on Red Lake? Well, there really is no for sure way to know. It has a lot to do with the amount of ice left, the kind of ice, the snow pack on the ice, the daily air temps, the night time lows, the amount of sun, the amount of wind, and the amount of precipitation. So with that being said...I know what you are thinking...what is your prediction Jim??
Well, thanks to my friend in Red Lake, here is a list of the ice out dates since 1956.

Average Ice Out (un-official) is around May 10th.
I will predict that it will be closer to the 14th. Yep...cutting it really close to the arrival of our first guest on the 18th!!
