So far our fish wall totals are:
200 walleye 25 inches+ (biggest = 30 inches)
85 Trout (biggest = 40 inches)
24 Pike 40 inches+ (biggest = 44 inches)
24 Perch 10 inches+ (biggest =11.5 inches)
And we still have 2 more months left.

Hot weather but good fishing

Another great week! The weather was unseasonably hot, but it did not stop these 3 groups (NHS, Cargola and Ruden) from catching a lot of really great fish! The NHS group caught more than 4000 fish this week!! The biggest pike was 44 inches(also a 42 in), the biggest walleye was 28 1/2 inches(3 others@ 28 in), the biggest trout was 38 inches, and the biggest perch was 11 1/2 inches.
Other highlights...the 3 groups caught 50 walleyes over 25 inches(5 @ 27 inches+), some nice mid 30's pike, 10 trout (8 that were 30 inches+), and lots of eater size perch. They even caught 4 smallmouth bass.
Overall it was a great week...filled with fun, laughter, swimming, games, and of course great fishing.
Thanks again to both groups! you guys rock!!

90 degree weather and still catching fish

We have a new pike leader. John, a first time guest, was able to boat this massive 44 inch pike after it latched onto his 20 inch walleye. Even with the crazy hot weather (90 deg today) the groups are still catching quality fish. The numbers have tapered off a bit due to the weather, but still seeing many walleyes over 20 inches. Also saw a few trout.
And lets not forget the shore lunches, plenty of them this week. Also a lot of swimmers this week. Water temps are in the mid-70's.
I will hope to have lots of pictures tomorrow and have the week's and season totals.

Fish, fish, and more fish

Another great day of fishing and shore lunches. When there are so many eater sized walleyes being caught, why eat PB&J for lunch. Right?!
There were plenty of big fish caught today as well...Pike, Walleye and Trout...who wants to come fishing?

Tuesday update...

Great fishing...just not a lot of pics be shared yet. I did, however, get pictures of our 2 biggest walleyes of 2018.
Jim caught a 29 incher and Boone caught a 30 incher.
Both fish were thick and healthy and were returned back into lake. Awesome job guys!
Overall, fishing remains very good. We are still seeing 20-25 inch walleyes consistently along with plenty of eaters.
In fact, we had not 1, but 3 shore lunches today...Well, three groups doing their own lunches. One group did the traditional fish and potatoes outside (with onion rings), another group made walleye Cheezers, and the last group made their famous walleye chowder. Holy cow was it a great lunch. I enjoyed all 3 equally. Thanks boys.

30 inches...our new leader!

week 5 start

With 3 straight days of consistent South East winds, it is no surprise to see the numbers of fish going up. We are seeing really good numbers of 14-18 inch walleyes and some fishermen are hitting schools of 20-24 inchers. The biggest this week so far is 28 inches. We have also seen a few nice pike (40in+) including a 42 incher caught off the swim dock using a fly rod! Trout fishing has been spotty due to the high winds making it tough to fish the big water, but we have seen some caught everyday.
With the abundance of under 18in walleye being caught, we have also had many groups doing multiple shore lunches already (with more scheduled for tomorrow). Yep, I am enjoying my lunch breaks!

Week 4 update (6/10)

Sorry for the delay on last weeks totals...but, Saturday morning 50 guests left at 9am and then 50 new guests started to arrive by 10:30am. Needless to say, we were quite busy for the past 36 hours. Luckily we have awesome guests so the transition from week 3 to week 4 was crazy busy but, very enjoyable. And fishing is starting to pick up again. More on that later.
Last week totals...
Perch - 4 more jumbos over 10 inches, biggest is 11in
Trout - 60 trout!! biggest was 38 inches (83 for the season)
Walleye - 25 more over 25 inches, 28 inches is still the biggest, and we are at 120 walleyes 25 inches or bigger.
Pike - 9 more 40+ inches, biggest is 43 inches, 19 total
I will add pictures in a bit.

Be ready to laugh...

Apparently Jeremiah is not afraid of jumping off the dock.

What to bring?

Yes, the weather changes quickly up here, and YES there are mosquitos, black flies and no-see-ums. How bad? Really depends on the weather (which I just mentioned changes all of the time). Best advise...bring an assortment of clothes (light weight and winter along with good rain gear) and for the bugs...stay covered and bring a ThermaCell. If you do not know what a Thermacell is, do some research on-line and then bring up 2 (one for each half of the boat). It is a small portable unit that runs on a butane cartridge which heats up a small square pad that creates a 5-10 ft area of bug protection. In the cabin or porch, Mosquito Coils work great.

May 31

Well if you don't like the weather in Red Lake...just wait a day. I believe my last post had a picture of the thermometer reading near 90 deg...today it reads 50 degrees at noon. With strong NE winds and plenty of cloud cover, it is down right chilly!! We did get some substantial rain yesterday, which will do well to knock down the forest fire risk a bit.
Fishing has also improved... We saw better numbers yesterday (along with some more big ones). I will post week/year totals soon.
